114. Hello Kitty no Ohanabatake (Shimada Kikaku, Famicom, 1992)

The next game in our Sanrio tour is another surprisingly decent time, Hello Kitty no Ohanabatake (which translates to Hello Kitty's Flower Garden). You control Hello Kitty in this level-based platformer where the objective is to water every flower in the level. The levels themselves are not single-screen, bu they are limited to one screen high and 2 screens wide, so each level only takes about a minute to clear.

The jumping is decent but not amazing, you are at least able to control the height of your jump. In addition to jumping and pressing down to water plants, you can also press B to swing a hammer at enemies, stunning them for a few seconds and making you invulnerable to their normally lethal touch. That's about the extent of what the game is working with, and while it's a pretty basic set of tools, it manages to build a series of interesting levels out of these parts.

Some levels features arrays of floating platforms, while another had only one flower to water, but put it in the middle of a difficult to reach area with enemies constantly moving around the flowerpot. Some levels are much more challenging than others, but it's not a brutal game by any means.

3/5, a basic but occasionally interesting arcade-style platformer
