56. Cosmotrons (Arcadeaholics, Arcade, 2018)

Cosmotrons is a 4-player versus arcade game with the same basic controls as the arcade classic Asteroids. It has only been released as a custom arcade cabinet, so it is only available at around a dozen arcades around the US. There are 2 buttons to rotate your ship left and right, a button to shoot, and a button to thrust, pushing you in whatever direction you are pointing. Instead of shooting and dodging asteroids, though, you are attempting to destroy the 3 ships piloted by the other players.

Cosmotrons lays on some more modern features on top of the asteroids formula as well: you can select from a variety of ships with various different stat tweaks: one ship shoots out its back side, the ship I had the most success with lists slightly to the right but has much better firepower. There is gravity as well, so the game does have a Lunar Lander feel to it. I died about as many times to enemy fire as I did from crashing into the terrain. You can also equip various charge shots, and I'm a real sucker for charging up a shot in a video game.
