14. Championship Bowling (Another, Famicom, 1991)

Released in the NES in 1989 and 2 years later on the Famicom in 1991, Championship Bowling is a very basic bowling simulator.

It works similarly to most early golf video games:

1. You choose your left/right positioning in the lane
2. A ball bounces back and forth on a bowling ball and you have to stop it to choose your spin
3. A meter bounces up and down and you have to stop it to choose your power.

This process has never particularly delighted me a golf video game, but here it's a bit simpler (because bowling has the same lane every time) and more digestible.

Other than that, this is bowling as usual with no special rules or obstacles or anything else that you wouldn't find in your normal real life bowling alley. I played through a game and ended up with 119 points, which would be a pretty good (though not unheard of) score for me in real bowling.

I remember back when the Wii came out and Wii Sports was making waves for getting old people to play video games, but was generally derided by the "true gamers". Though I have to say after playing a few early bowling games, Wii Sports bowling is so much more fun and entertaining, because it has that tactile oomph.

2/5, the title screen features a penguin and rabbit that never appear in the actual game.
